About

What is Music Therapy?

“Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program” – The American Music Therapy Association. Sessions may involve a variety of creating, singing, moving to and/or listening to music as part of an individualized treatment plan designed around non-musical goals. These goal areas can include sensorimotor, communication, emotional, social, academic skills, and cognition. Engaging in music, with support from your therapist, can strengthen abilities and carry skills over to other areas of your life. Visit JMT's Instagram @juneaumusictherapy to learn more! ---Meet Christine--- My love for music began at a very young age. A passion developed as I got older when I learned how music can allow people to communicate in ways that spoken language alone cannot. These experiences helped develop the desire to meet people where they are and form true connections. I went on to receive a BA in Psychology and Music from Augustana College and received my Master's in Music, Specialization in Music Therapy from Colorado State University. My internship was completed at Cortica: Advanced Neurologic Therapies for Autism in CA, where I became board certified in 2018. I became a music therapist to use my passion and support others - To highlight strengths and discover windows into engagement, communication, and growth that are totally authentic to each person. I founded JMT to provide supports that consider the whole individual, not simply a diagnosis, through services that support inclusion and value neurodiversity.
